The TOP 10 "Thou Shalt Nots" of Social Media

Social Media is the norm these days and probably the number one communication amongst teenagers. I'm sure there are many times you probably posted, tweeted, or sent a text that you probably should have thought twice about or wished you could have taken back! You probably have also seen many of your friends say things online that you can't believe!  The unspoken rules of interpersonal relationships and etiquette still apply online. Here's a quick list of the should and should nots of social media.

1. Thou shalt not tweet before you think.
Before hitting "tweet" or "post," use the five-second rule. Wait five seconds and ask, Is this something I want to be associated with? If the answer is "yes," post away. If the answer is "no," don't.

2. Thou shalt not spoil the results of a reality show.
We realize this is easy to break, but try your best to save the suspense of reality show endings for your DVR-ing social media sisters. In the very least, add "Spoiler Alert" to your post.

3. Thou shalt not stalk.
You know when you're guilty. And let's be honest: It's creepy!

4. Thou shalt not tweet in vain.
No one likes to hear a person only talk about herself. Tweeting about others will benefit you a lot more than tweeting about yourself, guaranteed.

5. Thou shalt not steal a status as your own.
If someone shares a clever status, give credit. Don't reap the comments or RT's another person has sown.

6. Thou shalt not LOL, ROTFL, or OMG too often.
Granted, using "LOL" isn't a sin, but when your status looks like "AWSM! G2G, ttyl, c ya! LYLAS!"...you've gone too far.

7. Thou shalt not 'check-in' thy home.
Why is that a problem? We're just trying to protect you from people who break #3.

8. Thou shalt not post anything that would embarrass your parents.
Not only because your parents might indeed be on Facebook, but the truth is, the majority of your future employers check social media sites when they're hiring new employees. Make momma proud.

9. Thou shalt not spam thy neighbor.
There isn't much more embarrassing faux pas than sending spam to your entire friend base. If it looks like spam, don't click on it.

10. Thou shalt not be a Negative Nancy or Pessimistic Peter.
Don't fill your friends' news feeds with how awful things are going. In other words, "leave the drama for your momma."

Thank you Collegiate Magazine for this great Top 10 List!

Senior Spotlight~Lindsey Paschal

Our Senior Spotlight for this month is...

Lindsey Paschal!

Lindsey is a senior at South Aiken High School. Her life verse is Hebrews 11:1.

1. Where is your favorite place to shop and why?
Target. Target has anything you could possibly need in any situation. They have awesome sales, not to mention the dollar section!

2. What do you like to do for fun?
For fun...I spend any time I can with my friends, shopping, hanging out, just making memories.

3. What is something God is teaching or showing you in your life right now?
God is definitely teaching me a lot right now. He's showing me how to become more humble and what it means to fully surrender.

4.  What advice would you give a future senior girl?
To a future senior girl...live it up, but not the way the world does. I had always heard that people will be able to tell that you're different by the way you act, and they'll begin to question that. I knew people could tell Christians were different, but I don't think I saw them actually start questioning it until this year. When people know that you don't drink and that you're not afraid to proclaim that, they really are amazed. If you really want to throw them for a loop, try telling them you're waiting to have sex until you're married. Surprisingly, most of them will encourage that. They say they wish they would've waited and say that it'll be worth the wait. So don't be afraid to say what you believe in...people respect that you're genuine.

5. Cake or pie?
Cake...all the way!

When you see Lindsey around church, make sure you say "Hello" and get to know her a little better!
