Stick Together

Finding Nemo is one of my favorite Disney Movies. Remember the scene where the fish "swim down" to get out of the net? Well, that really happened.

A school of herring caught in a trawler's net refused to give up without a fight-and sank a 10 meter boat. The trawler called "Steinholm" was fishing off Norway's northern coast when the six member crew made a huge catch of fish. When they tried to haul in the net, the entire school of herring swam for the bottom of the sea, capsizing the ship. "I have been fishing since I was 14 and I have never seen anything like it," said skipper Geir Nikolaisen. The crew members tried cutting the net loose, but were forced to abandon the ship, which sank in ten minutes.

Colossians 1: 10-14 says,
"Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins."

Satan has a plan to trap every Christian in sin. Using our weak spots and fatal flaws, he wants to make us ineffective in doing God's work. One of the best ways to protect ourselves against his attacks is to stick together. Joining with other Christians in your church and school is vital to "being strengthened with all power...so that you may have great endurance..." One or two herrings could never have sunk that boat. You, too, can achieve what seems impossible when you meet regularly with Christian friends to pray, talk about what God is doing in your life, and be accountable to each other as you confront your weaknesses.

Tomorrow is a big day at your schools to "stick together" and protect each other from Satan's evil plan. Please plan on attending and participating in See You at the Pole. More to come about that tomorrow...

Do You Go to Church...

Why do you go to church? To see your friends? To serve others? Because the music and media stuff entertains you? To learn about God? Because your parents want you to?
Seems like a pretty simple question, but have you truly thought about your REAL answer?

"Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them." ~Matthew 5:1-2

What do these verses tell you about why the disciples came to where Jesus was? Do you go to church for the same reason?

The verses describe a huge crowd. In today's church culture, we'd get so excited. We'd roll out a sweet sound system, set up a stage, and bring in a cool worship leader. Jesus didn't operate that way, though. In fact, He did the exact opposite. When He saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain and sat down. He didn't have to try to draw people to Him; those who longed to know Truth came to Him and listened. The stuff wasn't the attraction. Jesus was and He still is.

True disciples of Christ don't need to be entertained; they know they need a personal relationship with Him that challenges and changes them. Jesus' disciples came to Him to be taught, to learn what it means to follow Him. Do you do the same? Sure, all the "stuff and fluff" is nice at church, but the important part is are you spending time with Him personally? Are you coming to church expecting all the "stuff" or are you coming to truly grow in your relationship with God and listen to what He is trying to teach you?

5. My amazing mommy who is always there for me. I love her!

Senior Spotlight~Jocelyn Buczek

Happy Tuesday girls! I am excited to start Senior Spotlights back for our new seniors, Class of 2013! Each month I will highlight one of the senior girls so you can learn a little more about their lives. This month our senior spotlight is...

Jocelyn Buczek

Jocelyn is a senior at South Aiken Baptist Christian School. Her life verse is 1 Peter 5:7, "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."

1. If you have a free afternoon or day, what would you like to do?
If I have a free day, I love to call up my friends and do something with them! Or some days, it's just nice to relax at home too.

2. What is your favorite food?
My favorite food would have to be mac and cheese. It's super easy to make and a great comfort food.

3. What is your favorite thing about being a senior?
My favorite part about being a senior would definitely have to be getting out at noon everyday and only having four classes. Super easy!

4. What is God teaching/showing you right now?
God is definitely teaching me a lot of things right now. He is teaching me that I need to just give up everything to Him and let Him do what He wants in my life.

5. Winter or Summer?
I can't choose one! I love summer because no school and the beach! But I love winter clothes. I think they are so cute! And who doesn't love Christmas time?

Thank you, Jocelyn, for letting us get to know you! If you see Jocelyn around church or town, make sure to say hello and take the time to pray for her!

It's Thankful Thursday again! Hope all of you have had a great week. No school Monday and half day Wednesday sounds like a good week to me. I would love to have the things you are thankful for to add to the blog. Please let me know if you would like to participate! Nothing better than hearing from my girls and what God is blessing you with. This week I am thankful for:

1. This baby girl being so excited to start 3K this week. She loves it!

2. A long weekend where my family could spend some fun time together!

3. My mom! Celebrating her birthday this weekend!

4. My relationship with God. Without Him and His love and strength, I wouldn't be able to get through the day. I am so thankful for His many blessings in my life.

Hope He is blessing your socks off this week!
